Amidst controversy, Ghantasala's biopic ready for release

Ghantasala's wife and his son refused to give the approval to make a film on the life and times of the legendary playback singer

Ghantasala, a film on legendary playback singer and film composer late Ghantasala Venkateswararao, is ready to hit the screens soon. Directed by CH Rama Rao, the biopic features playback singer Krishna Chaitanya and his wife and television presenter Mrudula playing the roles of Ghantasala and his wife Savitramma, respectively. 

Produced by Lakshmi Neeraja, the shooting and post-production of Ghantasala have been wrapped up. Recently, the film stoked a controversy after Ghantasala's wife and his son refused to give the approval to make a film on the life and times of the legendary playback singer. They also contemplated sending a legal notice to the makers.

In response to the controversy, Rama Rao, who went ahead with the film, says, "Just like Ghantasala garu struggled to rise through the ranks, we faced several hardships to complete this biopic. We are confident of overcoming all the hurdles and releasing the film at the earliest. I am sure Ghantasala garu's blessings are with us."

Actor Suman has essayed the role of Hindustani classical vocalist Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, while actors Subbaraya Sarma, JK Bharavi, Ashok Kumar and Master Dixit, and Master Athuli will be seen in supporting roles.

Music of Ghantasala is by Saluri Vasu Rao.
