Recently, Martin Scorsese opined that superhero films are like theme parks. He also added that they were not cinema. His statement led to an uproar from Marvel fans and many counter-statements from celebrities.

Actor Samuel Jackson, who played the role of Nick Fury in Marvel Cinematic Universe, hit back at the Goodfellas director by saying that even Scorsese’s films are not favourites of everyone.

However, it looks like Scorsese won’t back down from his earlier stance. The Academy Award-winning director, in a recent speech, at BFI London Film Festival has echoed his earlier statement.

The director said that theatres have become amusement parks. He added, “That is all fine and good but don’t invade everything else in that sense. That is fine and good for those who enjoy that type of film and, by the way, knowing what goes into them now, I admire what they do. It’s not my kind of thing; it simply is not. It’s creating another kind of audience that thinks cinema is that.”

Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film The Irishman, which premiered at the 57th New York Festival on September 27, was the closing film at the BFI fest. The film is set to have a limited theatrical release on November 1, after which it will be released on Netflix on November 27.
