Recently, we reported about Jayaram getting much negativity for what his critics say is a fabrication of events, according to where his target audience is. In an old interview with a Malayalam channel, the actor said that he skipped the climax shot of Twenty:20 because he wanted to go to Sabarimala Temple. However, in a more recent conversation with a Tamil channel, he attributed it to an urgent need to go to his home in Chennai to celebrate Diwali with his family. Since then, his detractors have been calling him out for his two different accounts of the same event just to cater to his audience.
Meanwhile, many have also been criticising Jayaram for what they claim is an overly exaggerated, polished and polite demeanour in interviews, which they regard as being performative and disingenuous. Consequently, they have lately been calling him 'Vinayam Star' (humility star) on social media as a sarcastic moniker. While his fans still revere the actor's natural performances, especially in old Malayalam family dramas, the "Vinayam Star" appears to have stuck with him, at least for now.
Recently, actor Baiju Santhosh talked about Jayaram's tendency to exaggerate facts and addressed the trolls against the latter. Speaking to Movie World Media, Baiju said that Jagadish, Mukesh, and Maniyanpilla Raju are talented at telling stories with exaggerated facts. "Each of them are really talented in their respective area. You cannot single out anyone," Baiju quipped.
Baiju Santhosh also said that Jayaram has always been a hyperbolist. "If a place we visit had 1000 people, he would say that there were 10,000 individuals there. He would only say things like that—with a bit of embellishment," the actor joked about Jayaram.
He also said that while it was very entertaining to listen to Jayaram's hyperbolic stories in the past, the latter has lately been subject to much online vitriol for being too humble to a fault. "I think it would be good for him if he reduces his humility a little bit. I am going to tell him not to show this much humility to Malayalis," said Baiju Santhosh, bringing the house down with his signature humour.
