As Mohanlal's Drishyam 3 continues its successful run in theatres worldwide after its release on May 21, the film's director Jeethu Joseph has opened up about a long-pending project with Prithviraj Sukumaran that could mark their reunion after Memories and Oozham. Speaking to Reporter TV during a post-release conversation about the threequel, Jeethu revealed that the project is not a thriller, but a serious family drama that he has wanted to make for years.

Recalling his conversations with Prithviraj, Jeethu said the actor had promised to accommodate the film whenever the screenplay was ready. "I had told Raju a story long ago. Raju told me, 'Jeethu, whenever you write it, I'll give you the dates.' I had narrated it to him during the time of Memories," the filmmaker said.

Jeethu clarified that the proposed film is very different from the kind of commercial entertainers audiences might expect from the duo. "But it is not a thriller or anything like that. It is a family drama. It could even be a film that may have to be sent to festivals. I don't know, considering the way things work here. I don't know how it would perform if it is released commercially in theatres," he said.

Despite Prithviraj's willingness to do the project, Jeethu admitted that he has never found the time or mindset to complete the script. "I want to write it. But I haven't been able to sit down and do it. Even though Raju has kept his word that he will give me dates whenever I write it, I still haven't managed to complete the screenplay," he said.

The director attributed the delay to his busy schedule over the years. "One project came after another, and I became busy. There was a lot of pressure as well. That's one of the reasons. Now I'm trying to relax a little and explore different genres," he explained.

Jeethu also spoke about his desire to move beyond the thriller genre that has largely defined his career. He said he would like to make films in genres he has not previously explored. "I have always wanted to make a comedy film. Nunakkuzhi came from that desire. I also want to make a good family entertainer with humour. Apart from that, I would like to do genres I haven't attempted before, horror, musicals and children's films," he said.

Jeethu also shared that his daughter recently questioned why he still had not written the Prithviraj project. "The other day, my daughter asked me, 'Why haven't you written that script yet?' She told me that instead of always thinking about commercial cinema, I should make a film like that as well," he said.
