The dream run of the Kalyani Priyadarshan-starrer Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra continues to scale new heights. On Thursday, the makers officially announced through their social media handles that the fantasy epic has become the first film in history to surpass 50,000 shows in Kerala.
Released just over a month ago, the Dominic Arun directorial has been scripting milestone after milestone, and this latest achievement cements its standing as a true cultural phenomenon. Produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, the film has reportedly collected over ₹290 crores worldwide in just 35 days. It has already overtaken Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film globally. In Kerala alone, Lokah has raked in more than ₹115 crores, and trade experts predict it will soon surpass Mohanlal’s Thudarum to emerge as the highest-grossing film ever in the state.
Drawing richly from Kerala’s folklore and mythology, Lokah has captured the imagination of audiences across age groups, blending spectacle with a rooted cultural essence. Alongside Kalyani, the film features Naslen and Sandy in pivotal roles, with cameo appearances from Dulquer and Tovino Thomas. Actor Santhy Balachandran has contributed to the screenplay and dramaturgy, while the technical brilliance of cinematographer Nimish Ravi, composer Jakes Bejoy, editor Chaman Chakko, and production designer Banglan has given the film its grand canvas.
With the theatrical run still going strong and the next instalment set to focus on Tovino’s character Chathan/Micheal, Lokah looks all set to expand its universe further while continuing to smash records at the box office.
