As trade experts predicted after seeing the humongous response in the opening weekend, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has finally emerged as Malayalam cinema's new industry hit. By grossing over Rs 267 crore from its 24-day global run, the film surpassed the box office figures of Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan to cement its status as the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever.

According to trade reports, Lokah has earned nearly Rs 100 crores from Kerala theatres alone. Mohanlal's Thudarum is the only film to gross over Rs 100 crores from the Kerala box office. Lokah has also performed exceptionally well in the rest of India (RoI) market, amassing over Rs 50 crores, to become only the second Malayalam after Manjummel Boys to achieve this feat.

Meanwhile, Wayfarer Films, the production house backing Lokah, has reportedly informed Kerala theatres that the film won't be digitally released this month, contrary to some reports. The makers are said to be eyeing the Pooja holidays as well, before dropping it on OTTs. An official announcement regarding the streaming platform is still awaited.

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is a fantasy superhero film, rooted in Kerala folklore and mythology. Kalyani Priyadarshan plays the lead role in the film, which also stars Naslen and Sandy in prominent roles. Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salmaan also appear in cameo roles. It is directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer. Actor Santhy Balachandran is credited with additional screenplay and dramaturgy. Other major technicians include cinematographer Nimish Ravi, music director Jakes Bejoy, editor Chaman Chakko, production designer Banglan, art director Jithu Sebastian, and action choreographer Yannick Ben.

The makers have already confirmed that the next instalment in the Lokah universe will be centered on Chathan, the character played by Tovino.
