Sangarsha Ghadana (The Art of Warfare) is set for its digital premiere on November 14 on Sun NXT, the platform announced through social media. The film, written, edited and directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Krishand, was released in select theatres on August 8 following its premiere at the 2024 International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), where it was screened in the Malayalam Cinema Today section. It drew attention for its ambitious narrative structure, reworking gangster tropes through a philosophical lens while drawing historical parallels to explore themes of conflict and power.
Inspired by Sun Tzu’s The Art of Warfare, Sangarsha Ghadana follows a former gangster who returns to his homeland after an attack on his old gang. As he faces the repercussions of his past, his journey unfolds in tandem with the principles of the ancient Chinese military treatise. The film stars Sanup Padaveedan and Vishnu Agasthya in the lead roles, alongside Rahul Rajagopal, Zhinz Shan, Silesh K Lekshmi, Mrudula Murali, Jain Andrews, Akhil Raj, Eveyln Jobin, Ponnan Thevara, Manoj Kana, Seejan, and Sree. Cinematography is by Prayag Mukundan, with music by Rajesh Naroth. It is produced by Krishand Films in association with Joker Showreels.
An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "Sangarsha Ghadana is not just a story of crime or vengeance. With a cheekiness in every corner of the film, it is a reflection on what is left behind when violence becomes routine, when enemies start to feel human, and when even the most calculated battles leave only ruins. Like all of Krishand’s films, it dares to be different in its ambition, humour, and layered ideas, despite some indulgences. That quiet defiance feels like its own kind of triumph."
Krishand, who is best known for his highly acclaimed works such as Aavasavyuham and Purusha Pretham, is currently working on his next feature titled Masthishka Maranam.
