SonyLIV’s new web series Sambhava Vivaranam Naalara Sangham (The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang), written and directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Krishand, will begin streaming on August 29, the streamer announced on Thursday. The makers also released the trailer, which features Sanju Sivaram in the lead role and Darshana Rajendran as the antagonist.

According to the makers, 4.5 Gang is a dark action comedy that blends gritty realism with a streak of humour. Set in the underbelly of Thiruvananthapuram and based on true incidents, the show follows four young men and a midget from a slum who are determined to shake off their anonymity and earn respect. Their plan is to take charge of the local temple festival, but they soon find themselves up against a ruthless gangster who dominates the city’s unconventional yet fiercely competitive milk and flower trades.

The ensemble cast of 4.5 Gang also includes Jagadish, Indrans, Zarin Shihab, Vishnu Agasthya, Santhy Balachandran, Prashanth Alexander, Hakkim Shahjahan, Rahul Rajagopal, Sreenath Babu, Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju, Zhinz Shan, and Anoop Mohandas, among others. On the technical front, the series has cinematography by Vishnu Prabhakar, editing by Sasi Kumar, and music composed by Sooraj Santhosh and Varkey. It is backed by Jomon Jacob under the banner of Mankind Cinemas, which earlier co-produced films like The Great Indian Kitchen and Freedom Fight.

Krishand, known for his acclaimed films Aavasavyuham and Purusha Pretham, is currently working on his next feature Masthishka Maranam. He has also confirmed discussions with Mohanlal for a detective comedy and with Mammootty for an action comedy. Krishand's most recent directorial Sangarsha Ghadana - The Art of Warfare opened in cinemas earlier this month.
