Gireesh AD shared on Instagram a poster for his upcoming film I AM Kathalan that bears the release window for the film. Starring Gireesh's frequent collaborator Naslen and newcomer Anishma Anilkumar in the lead roles, I AM Kathalan will come out in theatres worldwide in August. Gireesh is directing the film from a Sajin Cherukayil screenplay, and it is billed as a family entertainer with thriller elements. In an earlier conversation with TNIE, Sajin, who also plays a pivotal role in the film, said, "It will be unlike anything Girish has done before in terms of style. Although it ventures into the thriller space, it's not what I would call a 'dark thriller'. It's a narrative told predominantly through humour. It packs some surprises for the latter half."

I AM Kathalan reunites Gireesh with Naslen after films like Thaneer Mathan Dinangal, Super Sharanya, and Premalu. It also stars Dileesh Pothan, Lijomol Jose, Vineeth Viswam, TG Ravi, and Vineeth Vasudevan in pivotal roles. On the technical front, it has music by Sidhartha Pradeep, editing by Akash Joseph Varghese, and cinematography by Sharan Velayudhan. The film is produced by Dr Paul Varghese under his namesake banner alongside Krishnamoorthy, with Tinu Thomas credited as a co-producer.
