Actor Divya Suresh has alleged that she and her sister were subjected to harassment by an unidentified man late at night on June 28 in Bengaluru’s Kanakapura Road area. The actor shared details of the incident on social media, with a video later going viral and triggering widespread concern over women’s safety in the city.
According to Divya, she and her sister were walking towards their car when a stranger began following them. She has alleged that the man came close to them and behaved in an inappropriate and intimidating manner, making obscene gestures and causing them severe distress.
Fearing for their safety, the sisters rushed into their car and locked the doors. However, the harassment reportedly continued even after they got inside the vehicle, with the man allegedly lingering outside and continuing to make obscene and threatening gestures, leaving them shaken and mentally distressed.
The situation escalated until the women raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents. Locals reportedly rushed to the spot, confronted the man, and questioned him, following which he fled the scene.
Divya later shared visuals of the incident on her Instagram Stories, showing members of the public intervening. The video has since circulated widely on social media, prompting strong reactions and renewed debate on women’s safety in Bengaluru, especially during late-night travel.
While the incident has been widely discussed online, it is understood that no formal police complaint has been filed at this stage. However, the episode has intensified calls for authorities to take note of the viral footage, identify the individual involved, and ensure stricter safety measures and night patrolling in public areas.
The incident has once again raised urgent questions about how secure public spaces are for women in urban centers, even in busy metropolitan areas like Bengaluru.
