Chaithra J Achar was initially approached to play the female lead in Dhanush’s upcoming Tamil film Kara. However, she lost the opportunity due to an unexpected reason.
According to director Vignesh Raja, the maker of Kara, Chaithra had completed a look test for the role. But she informed the team that she would be seen in a very similar look in another film, My Lord, starring Sasikumar. Since My Lord was scheduled to release before Kara, the makers felt the similarity could affect the freshness of her character.
As a result, the team replaced her and approached Mamitha Baiju. Interestingly, the director initially thought Mamitha might decline the offer, given her image of playing bubbly, light-hearted roles, but she surprised the team by agreeing.
Meanwhile, Chaithra has been increasingly busy with projects outside Kannada cinema, particularly in Tamil.
Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja, best known for Por Thozhil, has already generated strong buzz with its trailer and is set to release on April 30.
Kara according to the makers, is set in 1991 and draws heavily from the socio-political atmosphere of that period. The film blends elements of crime and drama, using its historical backdrop to shape the narrative and characters.
The film also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jayaram, KS Ravikumar, and Karunas. It is produced by Ishari K Ganesh under Vels Film International, co-produced by Kushmita Ganesh, with music by GV Prakash Kumar.
