Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle has officially crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in India, ushering a successful time for anime films in the country. After a record-breaking weekend for the film which saw it registering over Rs 41 crore, the film witnessed a significant dip during the weekdays, earning almost Rs 4 crore each day. This saw its total coming to over Rs 51.31 crore within six days of release.
After opening with a historic Rs 13.25 crore on September 12, Demon Slayer's collections kept consistently improving with each day, culminating with a 10 per cent increase on Sunday with Rs 14.5 crore. Despite a 70 per cent drop in revenue, the film continues to power through, beating major Bollywood films like Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar and Tiger Shroff's Baaghi 4. Interestingly, the Japanese version in India continues to outperform the dubbed versions.
The latest film is a direct sequel to the fourth season of the anime television series as well as its fourth, fifth, and sixth film adaptations, following Mugen Train (2020) and compilation films To the Swordsmith Village (2023) and To the Hashira Training (2024). It was released on September 12 to positive reviews two months after its premiere in Japan, after beating the record of the highest-grossing film in the country. Raking in more than $384 million, the film has secured its place as the second top-grossing Japanese film of all time worldwide.
Infinity Castle has also climbed to the second spot among the highest-grossing animated films in India, surpassing the collections of Incredibles 2, Frozen 2, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The only film ahead of it is the recent sensation Mahavatar Narsimha, which has crossed Rs 200 crore at the Indian box office.
The cast of the film features voices by Natsuki Hanae, Akari Kitō, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Hiro Shimono, Takahiro Sakurai, and Akira Ishida.
