Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle swings its katana with historic opening of Rs 13 crore in India

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, directed by Haruo Sotozaki has emerged as a surprise winner at the box office this weekend by registering over Rs 13 crore in India, according to Sacnilk.com. The film had opened to packed audiences in theatres, cheering for their favourite characters from the manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge.

The latest film is a direct sequel to the fourth season of the anime television series as well as its fourth, fifth, and sixth film adaptations, following Mugen Train (2020) and compilation films To the Swordsmith Village (2023) and To the Hashira Training (2024). It was released on September 12 to positive reviews two months after its premiere in Japan, after beating the record of the highest-grossing film in the country.

After strong predictions of a double digit opening acros the country, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has surpassed all expectations by becoming the second highest-opener that has beaten recently-released Indian films like Baaghi 4 (Rs 12 crore), Param Sundari (Rs 7.25 crore), The Bengal Files (Rs 1.75 crore) and Mirai (Rs 12 crore). The top coveted position still belongs to The Conjuring: Last Rites which earned Rs 17 crore. Interestingly, James Gunn's recent blockbuster Superman had earned Rs 7 crore in India.

Kochi had registered the highest occupancy in the country with 64 per cent, followed by Chennai at 57 per cent and Hyderabad at 48 per cent.

Worldwide, the numbers continue to soar. The global total has reportedly crossed $279 million, according to Box Office Mojo. In the US, it is projected that the film will reach $45 million during the weekend.

The cast of the film features voices by Natsuki Hanae, Akari Kitō, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Hiro Shimono, Takahiro Sakurai, and Akira Ishida.
