The Bombay High Court has extended its stay on the Leave India Notice (LIN) issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), Mumbai, to Imran Khan over the actor's brief detention during a demonstration, on October 10, at the August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai.
The extension is in effect until the next hearing, which is to be held on December 7. Imran had earlier filed a write petition challenging the LIN, which ordered the actor, who is an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, to leave India on or before October 28.
The petition also mentions that the LIN does not specify the provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, which Imran Khan allegedly violated. The actor maintains that he hasn't entered any restricted or barricaded area, or hasn't disobeyed the directions of the police when asked to leave. The petition also maintains that no show-cause notice was provided, nor was the actor given a chance to present his case.
Khan has also maintains that he has lived in India since he was two years old and has held the OCI cardholder status since 2006. He reaffirmed his association with India by highlighting his education, professional work and family ties to the country.
