A day after a Sikh organisation lodged a complaint against Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge and actor Ranveer Singh for hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community, the filmmaker has issued a clarification, noting that AI-manipulated visuals are creating "false and misleading narratives."
The complaint, lodged by 'Sikhs in Maharashtra' group in Mumbai, expressed their objection and displeasure against Ranveer Singh holding a cigarette while dressed in traditional Sikh attire in the film's promotional material. Calling it a "fabricated image", Aditya Dhar said, "This is completely untrue and does not form part of the film or any official material released by us. It is a deliberate act of misrepresentation intended to provoke and create mischief."
The Uri filmmaker underlined his deep and "highest respect" for the Sikh community and said that every character's portrayal in the film has been dealt with "utmost sensitivity, dignity, and responsibility." He also issued a warning of strict action, urging audiences to rely only on official clips and verified videos, and not fall prey to AI-generated misinformation being circulated with "ulterior motives."
Meanwhile, on the box office front, the actioner has been raking in massive numbers, and has already crossed the Rs 1000 crore milestone within its first week of release, beating Kantara Chapter 1, Animal, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Dhurandhar: The Revenge also has an ensemble star cast of Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, Sara Arjun, Danish Pandor and Gaurav Gera.
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios, it serves as a direct sequel to Dhurandhar, which also broke several records at the box office, including being the highest-grossing Hindi film in India.
