We had earlier reported about Ram Gopal Varma planning a big comeback to Hindi cinema with the film Police Station Mein Bhoot, starring Manoj Bajpayee. On Monday evening, Ram Gopal Varma took to his X page to make official announcement about his next project. The film titled Police Company, will be headlined by Harshvardhan Rane.
Sharing a detailed post, alongwith a few stills of Harshvardhan Rane as the protagonist, RGV announced, “My next film’s name being produced by T-Series is Police Company. With the tag line ‘It Is More Dangerous Than D Company.’”
Writing an elaborate note on the chapter of Mumbai underworld and explaining how the conflict between Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Rajan created a vacuum and massive outburst of other gangs in Mumbai, also attracting young men from places like UP, MP, Bihar etc to join the underworld, RGV informed that his film is based on the special squad that was created to control the situation, where more than 300 gangsters were killed between 1997 and 2004.
In Police Company, Harshvardhan Rane will play the encounter specialist cop Daya Nayak, who was a key figure in Mumbai’s campaign against organised crime during the 1990s and early 2000s. More details about the film, including other cast members, is yet to be revealed.
It is to be noted that in 2002, RGV had made Company, which was loosely based on the conflict between gangsters Dawood and Chota Rajan, and their conflict with police. With Police Company, it seems RGV plans to capture the same story from the police’s perspective. In 2004, the filmmaker also produced Ab Tak Chhappan, which too was inspired by the life of Daya Nayak, with the role being played by Nana Patekar.
Harshvardhan Rane’s last major film appearance was in Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat (2025), where he shared screen with Sonam Bajwa.
