Anees Bazmee, who has directed some of the most popular comedy-entertainers of last two decades like Welcome, No Entry, Singh is Kingg, Ready and more, is making another comedy-entertainer with Akshay Kumar in the lead. It was being reported that the film is an official remake of 2024 Telugu blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunam. During a recent interview, Anees Bazmee cleared the air on the subject.

Speaking to Avanti Films on their YouTube channel, Anees stated, “Such rumours keep floating in the market. But I never give clarification, as the truth comes out eventually. The story of our film is close to the premise of Sankranthiki Vasthunam. Also, Dil Raju bhai is the producer of both the films. All I can say is that our film is good, and we are working hard on it."

The filmmaker also confirmed that Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna are playing the female leads, and that the ensemble cast will feature actors like  Vijay Raaz, Zakir Hussain, and Sayaji Shinde, adding that a title hasn’t been locked yet. The shooting for the film will commence on Tuesday, January 20.

The upcoming film marks fifth collaboration between Anees and Akshay Kumar. Talking about his association with Akshay, Anees said, “Akshay and I didn’t work for so many years. However, we continued bumping into each other and our bond remained intact. When I got the story of this film and realized it would be apt for Akshay ji, I approached him. He loved the story.” The Welcome filmmaker also mentioned that he has been wanting to make a film with producer Dil Raju for a long time.

Meanwhile, Anees Bazmee is reportedly also helming direction for No Entry sequel, tentatively titled No Entry Mein Entry. His previous film was Bhool Bhulaiyya 3, which released in 2024.
