It is well known that production on Jailer 2 is going on in full swing and director Nelson Dilipkumar is working on a grander script for the sequel. With Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie now out in theatres, the wait for Rajinikanth's next project has begun.
While the original cast members including Ramya Krishnan and Mirna Menon are likely to return for the sequel, no other actors have been announced by the makers. However, speculations are rife about noted Bollywood actor Vidya Balan playing a key role in the film. If true, this film would be her second Tamil film after Nerkonda Paarvai where she played a cameo role opposite Ajith Kumar. An official confirmation regarding the same is awaited.
Meanwhile, there is also a strong buzz regarding another Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty joining the cast. The veteran star will be reportedly starring alongside Rajinikanth in the upcoming film. However, the makers are yet to confirm that as well.
Jailer, released in 2023, starred an ensemble cast consisting of Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Sunil, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa Menon. Tamannaah Bhatia was featured in one song 'Kaavaalaa'. Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff had strong cameo appearances in the film. While Shivarajkumar had confirmed earlier that he would return for this film, it is not known if Jackie Shroff an Mohanlal would come back as well.
We had also recently reported that Anna Raajan, best known for her breakthrough role in Lijo Jose Pellissery's Angamaly Diaries (2017), is part of the film. This project will mark Anna's Tamil debut.
Rajinikanth was recently seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, which is currently running in theatres. The film starred Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj and Rachita Ram, with Aamir Khan and Pooja Hegde in special appearances. Vidya Balan last starred in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in 2024. Her 2005 film Parineeta has been re-released in theatres to mark its 20-year anniversary.
