We had recently reported about Rajpal Yadav surrendering to Delhi Police after High court found him guilty in a cheque bounce case, where the actor failed to make due payments amounting to nearly Rs 9 crore. A few days ago, Sonu Sood extended his support to Rajpal Yadav. Now eminent filmmaker and Rajpal’s frequent collaborator Priyadarshan has spoken about the same.

In an interview with Mid Day, Priyadarshan spoke about his long and fruitful association with the popular actor, adding, “I have known Rajpal for over 20 years. I knew about his problem. That’s why I kept signing Rajpal for every film. I pushed him in ad films too. The poor guy made a blunder because of his poor education. Rajpal is a good soul.” Rajpal Yadav had borrowed a sum of Rs 5 crore to fund his movie Ata Pata Laapata, but failed to return the money after the film failed commercially.

Priyadarshan also shared that he has asked Jubilee Films, the producers of his next film, which features Pankaj Tripathi in the lead, to pay Rajpal a higher fee than usual. He added, “We want to save him. He has starred in most of my films. I told the producers of my next to pay Rajpal more than what he charges because of his situation.” The actor and filmmaker have worked in many memorable comedies like Maalamaal Weekly, Hungama, and Bhool Bhulaiyya among others.

Priyadarshan, meanwhile is busy with several projects. Besides Bhooth Bangla, which is due for release in 2 months, the director also has Hera Pheri 3 and Haiwaan in the pipeline. All of them star Akshay Kumar in the lead.
