Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, director of films like Shootout at Wadala (2013), Jazbaa (2015) and Kaabil (2017), took to social media to express his frustration at OTT shows and even went on to call Indian shows “horrendous”.

Taking to X, Sanjay wrote, “Simply FRUSTRATING how bad all the new stuff on OTT is. Stray exceptions like Task are just not enough. Monster: The Ed Gein Story is unbearably bad. Some new Indian shows are HORRENDOUS. Thank God for YouTube.”

The show that Sanjay mentioned, Task, follows a Philadelphia-based FBI agent (played by Mark Ruffalo) who leads a task force against a backdrop of intense family drama. The show opened to positive reviews and has been created by the maker of Kate Winslet’s Mare of Easttown (2021).

Sanjay had previously heaped praises on Task in another separate tweet, where he called the show "Dark, atmospheric, moody”. “Task on HBO is superb. Such consistency of great quality from them," he wrote.

Sanjay is known for his tweets, where he regularly talks about films and the industry. He had earlier praised Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda-starrer Saiyaara, which came out earlier this year. He even praised Lokah: Chapter 1: Chandra actor Kalyani Priyadarshini in one of his recent tweets.

On the work front, Sanjay last directed the sports-action film, The Miranda Brothers, which came out on JioHotstar in 2024. It featured Harshvardhan Rane, Sahher Bammba, Jeniffer Piccinato, Meezaan Jaaferi and Naved Jaaferi in pivotal roles.
