Ahead of the release of his upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland said that he would like to see an R-Rated version of his web-slinging superhero. Speaking to Empire, Holland said that the above thought occurred to him after The Punisher star Jon Bernthal starred in the upcoming film with him.

The actor shared that he would like to appear in a Punisher show to return the favour to Bernthal. "I’m so grateful for Jon for taking the leap and being a part of the film, and I would love to repay the favour." He also added, "Let’s see what an R-rated version of Spider-Man looks like."

It is worth noting that the series The Punisher has a mature rating that is equivalent to an R-rating for television due to its graphic and gratuitous violence.

Holland and Bernthal acted together previously in 2017's Pilgrimage. Bernthal told Empire that it was Holland who made him take interest in The Punisher, one of the many characters in the Marvel Comics. "I really wasn’t familiar with the Punisher. I wasn’t a huge comic-book guy Tom was really the one that said, ‘Man, this character’s so great,’ and he explained it to me," Bernthal said. It is worth noting that The Punisher is also known as Frank Castle and is a vigilante in Bernthal's series. Notably, the actor has also played the same role in Daredevil, where too his version of the character is a vigilante. There is also an antihero vigilante version in the comic books.

Coming back to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the upcoming film also stars Zendaya and Stranger Things fame Sadie Sink, among others. The film is slated for a July 31 release in theatres. Meanwhile, another trailer for the film has been leaked online, reportedly causing Sony Pictures to issue copyright takedowns.
