Producers Boney Kapoor and Naga Vamsi recently got into an argument during a roundtable conversation. Now, sharing a clip of the video, producer and filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has slammed Naga for his “disgusting attitude” and said that he should “learn to value respect before success.”
To give context, at this year’s Galatta Plus Producers Roundtable, Boney was talking about how southern films have different sort of markets overseas. While making his point he said, “For instance, Telugu films have a unique market in the US, while Tamil films have a strong presence in Singapore and Malaysia…And the Gulf, of course, is a cosmopolitan area.” To this, Naga replied, “No, the Gulf has a huge market for Malayalam films.”
Boney then went on to explain and stated that when he says “cosmopolitan” he includes Malayalam films, but Naga went on to make the point that South films like RRR and Baahubali have reshaped how Bollywood looks at cinema. “One thing, sir, you have to accept this. It might sound really harsh. We, South Indians, have changed the way you [Bollywood] look at cinema. Because, you guys [Bollywood], were stuck in making films for Bandra and Juhu. You witnessed a change with Baahubali, RRR, Animal and Jawan. After Mughal-E-Azam, you mentioned films like Baahubali and RRR, which were Telugu films. You never really spoke of a Hindi film’s name after Mughal-E-Azam,” said Naga.
Naga’s reply didn’t sit well with producer and filmmaker Sanjay, known for helming films like Shootout At Wadala, Jazbaa and Kaabil. He took to X to share a clip of the video and wrote, “Who is this obnoxious guy sitting next to a senior producer like Boney Ji and deriding him with his fake vanity? Look at his body language and disgusting attitude. 4/5 hits dene se yeh Bollywood ke baap nahin bane na banienge (You can’t overpower Bollywood by giving 4/5 hits)"
He further questioned if Naga would have behaved the same with senior producers like Allu Aravind and said, "Would he have the guts to sit in front of senior Producers like Allu Aravind Sir or Suresh Babu Sir and speak to them in this manner pointing his fingers in their face. Learn to value RESPECT before SUCCESS." He added, "The first thing we learned working with the great Southern Film Producers was HUMILITY and DISCIPLINE. An obnoxious show of arrogance is the very last thing you would expect from them."
Naga Vamsi is known for backing films like Lucky Baskhar, Tillu Square and Gangs of Godavari, while Boney is a veteran producer who has funded films like Woh Saat Din, Mr. India and No Entry.
