Amidst online criticism of attempting a remake for the second time after Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), Aamir Khan in a recent podcast defended his decision of making Sitaare Zameen Par, which is a remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions. He stated that he doesn’t feel his creativity diminishes if he is doing a remake and tried to explain his point by saying that the plays of Shakespeare are being remade till now but nobody bats an eye on that.

During a conversation with podcaster Raj Shamani, when asked about what his thought process is when it comes to original work vs adaptations, Aamir said, “I don’t have any problem with making remakes. I don’t think my creativity diminishes in any way because I am giving the original work my own lens.”

“Till date, people adapt Shakespeare, in almost every language. And we see these adaptations and say ‘Wow, they are doing Shakespeare’ why? It’s also a remake, people should ask that to be cancelled too,” he added.

Aamir also said that this discussion on remakes is “unnecessary”. “If ten people have made a thing before me, I take it as an opportunity to learn from them. I didn’t have any problem with making remakes previously, nor do I have now.”

The actor also spoke about how after Laal Singh Chaddha (which was a remake of the 1994 film Forrest Gump) and while making Sitaare Zameen Par many people deterred him for making a remake again. “But I am a little mad in the head,” Aamir said. “I don’t understand the practicalities of things. When I saw the Spanish film Champions, I felt like I was watching part 2 of Taare Zameen Par (2007)…Indian audience isn’t going to watch a Spanish film, we want an Indian flavour.”
