Shah Rukh Khan will be returning to do the Hindi dubbing for the character of Mufasa in the live-action film Mufasa: The Lion King. The film’s trailer was unveiled by the makers on Monday. The actor’s sons, Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan, will lend their voices to Simba and young Mufasa, while Sanjay Mishra and Shreyas Talpade have dubbed for the much-loved characters of Timon and Pumba.

Shah Rukh had earlier dubbed for the character in the film’s prequel The Lion King, which released in 2019. The English version features the voices of Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr, John Kani, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, and Thandiwe Newton.

Talking about his experience working in the film, Shah Rukh stated, “Mufasa has an incredible legacy and stands as the ultimate king of the jungle, imparting his wisdom to his son, Simba. I deeply relate to him as a father and also resonate with Mufasa’s journey in the film.” He added, “Mufasa: The Lion King depicts Mufasa’s life from childhood to his rise as an incredible king and revisiting this character has been exceptional. It’s a special collaboration for me with Disney, particularly because my sons, Aryan and AbRam, are part of this journey and sharing this experience with them is truly meaningful.”

The trailer gives a glimpse into the visually striking imagery that is generated by CGI with a blend of live-action techniques. It features the inimitable voice of Shah Rukh as he says dialogues with a certain dramatic flair. It follows the story of the orphan Mufasa, who builds a friendly bond with a young prince named Taka and is adopted by his family.

The film is directed by Barry Jenkins and written by Jeff Nathanson. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pastel Productions, it will be released in theatres on December 20 with dubs in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
