Earlier this Saturday, we reported about the passing of Ajith Kumar's mother, Mohini Mani. She passed away because of age-related illnesses. She was 89 years old at the time of death. Many in Tamil Nadu, including Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, actor Kamal Haasan, and former CM MK Stalin, mourned her death and conveyed their condolences to her survivors.
Now, hours after the event, Ajith Kumar has reached Chennai for his mother's final rites. Videos of Ajith entering the Chennai Airport are circulating online. In some of the videos, the actor can be seen surrounded by cameras as he tries to get into his car.
Ajith has not spoken much about the relationship he shared with his mother publicly, partly because he does not give interviews that often. The actor's love and respect for her reflect more in his non-profit endeavours. Notably, the actor has established a charitable organisation named after his mother, Mohini Mani Foundation, thus paying tribute to her. Reportedly, the organisation has funded many initiatives related to civic consciousness, urban welfare, and public health.
Malini is also survived by her sons Anil Kumar and Anup Kumar. After her passing, Anil shared a statement on social media that read, "We are grateful for the care and support provided to her and our family by a number of medical professionals these last few years. We are comforted, even in this time of grief, that she lived a long life and could be counted among the lucky ones – to have known the undying love and care of dear ones and the genuine respect of just about everyone who came to know her kind nature, selfless spirit, and quiet grace."
Anil added, "Indeed, the credit for all that we have gone on to accomplish in our respective lives is owed substantially to her warm embrace, unwavering devotion, and wise counsel, which formed the very heart and soul of our home. She was blessed to know a successful marriage of nearly six decades with our late father, and their cherished memories will continue to offer strength and comfort to us. We are moved by the kind, heartfelt messages, condolences, and remembrances that have been pouring in, and we ask for your understanding if we are unable to take calls or are slow to respond to messages."
The statement noted that Mohini's last rites "will be a private, family affair," and the ceremony is set to take place on Sunday morning.
