Members from across the film fraternity and political circles have been sharing their condolence messages for Ajith Kumar and his family following the death of his mother Mohini Mani. She had been suffering from age-related ailments for the past few years and breathed her last on Saturday at the age of 89.

Tamil Nadu's recently elected Chief Minister Vijay, who is a dear friend of Ajith Kumar, penned a note, sharing his sadness on his mother's passing. He wrote on his X handle, saying, "I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of Mrs. Mohini Ammaiyar, mother of my dear friend Mr. Ajith Kumar. I pray that her soul rests in peace at the feet of the Almighty."

He further noted, "I extend my heartfelt condolences to my friend Mr. Ajith Kumar and his family, who are grieving the loss of a loving mother who stood by them and supported them through every phase of life."

Earlier in the day, DMK Chief and former CM MK Stalin said he has "no words" to console him. Sharing his sadness, he wrote, "May the beautiful moments spent with his mother stand as support for him to recover from this sorrow. My deepest condolences and comfort to Mr. Ajith Kumar and his family." Actor-politician Kamal Haasan too took to his X handle to write a statement on the same. "I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Ajith Kumar's mother, Mrs. Mohini Mani. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Ajith Kumar and his family, who are grieving the loss of their beloved mother," he said.

The actor's brother Anil Kumar shared a lengthy post, explaining how their mother passed away early on Saturday morning, in her sleep, after a period of declining health. "We are grateful for the care and support provided to her and our family by a number of medical professionals these last few years. We are comforted, even in this time of grief, that she lived a long life and could be counted among the lucky ones – to have known the undying love and care of dear ones and the genuine respect of just about everyone who came to know her kind nature, selfless spirit, and quiet grace," he wrote, revealing details of her Sindhi heritage, how she migrated to newly independent India at the time of Partition and started her life over.

Anil further said that her last rites would be a private and family affair, requesting everyone to respect the family’s wish to grieve quietly and honour her memory with the dignity, grace, and strength she embodied throughout her life.

Mohini Mani is survived by her three sons - Anup Kumar, Ajith Kumar and Anil Kumar.
