Two months after it made a massive splash at the box office, Michael is inching closer to the end of its theatrical run with a mighty record. The Michael Jackson biopic, headlined by his nephew Jaafar Jackson, has become the highest-grossing music biopic of all time, overtaking Bohemian Rhapsody at the global box office.
According to reports, the musical drama has minted $911.9 million worldwide, crossing the lifetime global total of Bohemian Rhapsody, which made $910.9 million. Earlier, it had overtaken the 2022 Elvis Presley biopic Elvis. That's not all. Michael is also now the highest-grossing biopic ever at the US box office. This adds another feather in the cap for producer Graham King, who also backed Bohemian Rhapsody. The next milestone for Michael is the $1 billion mark which is the film is closing in on.
Michael is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan. It follows the life of the American singer Michael Jackson, covering his involvement in the Jackson 5 in the 1960s to the 1980s Bad tour.
The supporting features Colman Domingo and Nia Long playing Jackson’s parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson; Miles Teller appearing as John Branca, the singer’s long-time advisor and attorney; Larenz Tate portraying Motown legend Berry Gordy; Laura Harrier playing music executive Suzanne de Passe; and Kat Graham appearing as Diana Ross.
Additional cast includes Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark, and KeiLyn Durrel Jones as long-time friend and former security head, Bill Bray.
