The list of nominations for this year's BAFTA Film Awards have been announced. As with the upcoming Academy Awards, Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another and Ryan Coogler's Sinners dominate the BAFTA nominations. The only difference with the Oscars is that Anderson's film has more nominations at the BAFTAs as compared to the Coogler directorial. Both feature in the list of five nominees for best film at the BAFTA Film Awards, also including Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme, Chloé Zhao's Hamnet, and Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value.

Hamnet also features in the list of ten nominations for Outstanding British Film, alongside 28 Years Later, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, The Ballad of Wallis Island, Die My Love, I Swear, H Is for Hawk, Mr Burton, Steve, and Pillion.

As for Best Director, the nominees are Yorgos Lanthimos for Bugonia, Chloé Zhao for Hamnet, Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme, Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another, Joachim Trier for Sentimental Value, and Ryan Coogler for Sinners. Zhao, Safdie, Anderson, Trier, and Coogler also have Best Director Oscar nominations.

Interestingly, the five nominees in the best non-English film category are the same for the Oscars and the BAFTAs. The said films are The Secret Agent (Brazil), It Was Just an Accident (France), Sentimental Value (Norway), Sirât (Spain), and The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia). On the other hand, One Battle After Another star DiCaprio, Marty Supreme star Timothée Chalamet, Ethan Hawke of Blue Moon, and Sinners star Michael B Jordan are part of the BAFTA nominations in the Leading Actor category, alongside Robert Aramayo (I Swear) and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia). Notably, DiCaprio, Chalamet, Jordan, and Hawke are also part of the nominees for the Best Actor Oscar award this year, alongside Wagner Moura of The Secret Agent.

Interestingly, Moura did not find any favour from the BAFTA. As for best leading actress, the nominees are: Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value, and Emma Stone for Bugonia. Interestingly, Buckley, Stone, Byrne, Reinsve, and Hudson are also nominated for Best Actress Oscar.

Also nominated for a BAFTA in the Children’s and Family Film category is director Lakshmipriya Devi's Manipuri film Boong, of which Farhan Akhtar is a producer. The film is competing for the award alongside Arco, Lilo & Stitch, and Zootropolis 2.

Meanwhile, the contenders for the EE Rising Star Award voted by the public are: Robert Aramayo (I Swear), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Miles Caton (Sinners), Archie Madekwe (Lurker), and Posy Sterling (Lollipop).

BAFTA Film Awards will be announced on February 22, Sunday.
