Warner Bros Pictures has submitted 'I Lied to You' and 'Last Time (I Seen the Sun)' from Ryan Coogler's allegorical vampire film Sinners for the Best Original Song Oscar award, according to Variety. Sinners tells the story of race and class violence in the guise of a vampire film, and it revolves around a community in which blues music is deeply ingrained. The song 'I Lied to You' comes at a pivotal point in the film, with Miles Caton performing it as young Sammie. One of the iconic moments in the vampire film, it shows the past and present of the community coming together at the juke joint, echoing their cultural significance and the blues' legacy.

Coogler's film stars Michael B Jordan as twin brothers who go back to their native town to start a juke joint. However, a group of vampires perpetrate the joint and cause sheer mayhem. The cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, and Omar Benson Miller, among others. Legendary blues singer Buddy Guy is also part of the film's cast.

The news about the Oscar submissions comes hot on the heels of Sinners' makers announcing that the film would come back to IMAX screens on October 30.
