Catherine Zeta-Jones has a dream casting idea for the next season of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, and it involves one of her husband Michael Douglas’s oldest friends. Speaking at a For Your Consideration event for the show at Netflix’s Tudum Theatre in Hollywood, the Oscar winner revealed she’d love to see Danny DeVito step into the world of the Addams Family.

“I don’t know how Danny DeVito hasn’t been cast already,” Zeta-Jones said with a laugh. “I was with him for our birthday in September — Michael and I share the same birth date — and I told him, ‘Why isn’t Danny DeVito in Wednesday?’”

She went on to say she’d like to see him play the quirky Cousin Itt. “Imagine Danny DeVito as Cousin Itt? That would be so cool,” she added, before joking about his possible reaction. “He’s going to kill me for that. He’ll be like, ‘Yeah, they’ll cast me and cover me in hair. Thanks a lot, Catherine.’”

Zeta-Jones, who plays the elegant Morticia Addams in the Netflix adaptation, also recalled her excitement when she learnt Lady Gaga would appear in the second season. “It was top secret,” she said. “I didn’t tell Michael, I didn’t tell my kids — nobody. I’m a good girl. But when it came out, my family couldn’t believe they were the last to know about Gaga.”

Seeing Gaga on set was a moment Zeta-Jones won’t forget. “I turned into a 17-year-old groupie,” she admitted. “She’s a generational talent, and I was thrilled to meet her. I’d love to collaborate with her again on something in the future.”

Production on Wednesday Season 3 is set to begin next year, and while Zeta-Jones hasn’t yet read the new scripts, she’s eager to explore more of Morticia’s story, especially her relationship with her mother, portrayed by Joanna Lumley. “I’d love to see that dynamic evolve and see how it impacts Morticia and Wednesday,” she said. “And honestly, I hope Wednesday snaps out of it next season. She can’t keep demonising her mother forever!”
