After being expelled for attempting to murder her brother Pugsley’s bullies, Wednesday Addams is enrolled at her parents’ alma mater, Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts in Jericho, Vermont. There, she meets her sunny roommate, Enid, and clashes with popular student Bianca. Her parents secretly enlist Thing to keep an eye on her. As an unknown monster kills a hiker nearby, Wednesday fends off a fatal prank and is rescued by Bianca’s ex, Xavier. She later has a vision of Rowan’s death and is attacked by him at a carnival, only to be saved by a terrifying creature.
Wednesday questions her sanity when Rowan reappears alive and healthy. When Sheriff Galpin is hesitant to believe her claims, she begins investigating the mysterious deaths herself. Rowan is revealed to be a shapeshifting Weems. A vision leads her to a hidden student society book. While joining Enid in a school competition, she discovers a secret library but gets caught in the act.
Wednesday is kidnapped by the elite student society but escapes with a stolen book. At a local fair, she finds a painting of a girl from her visions, who turns out to be her ancestor Goody Addams. The monster attacks her again, and she realises it is human. She later sabotages a town event honouring Crackstone by destroying his statue. Meanwhile, a camera captures images of the monster in the woods.
Thing and Wednesday break into the coroner's office for evidence and learn that the body parts of the victims have been surgically removed. Suspicious of Xavier, she takes his artwork of the monster and finds her way into its lair, only to find a claw for DNA testing. At the school dance, Tyler is her date, but chaos breaks out. Sensing Eugene is in danger, Wednesday finds him brutally attacked in the woods.
During Parents’ Weekend, Gomez is arrested for a 30-year-old murder. A family therapy session spirals into Wednesday confronting her parents. After uncovering that Garrett Gates was poisoned, not murdered, the Addamses confront Mayor Walker. It is disclosed that Garrett wanted to poison Nevermore because of his father's despise for outcasts. Gomez' name is cleared, and Weems comes clean about covering up Rowan's murder to avoid controversy.
Wednesday attempts to summon Goody Addams, who leads her to the Gates mansion. There, she sees Mayor Walker, who is soon run over and later killed in the hospital. Despite a lockdown, Wednesday, Enid, and Tyler sneak out and return to the mansion, where they discover severed body parts. Though the evidence disappears, she convinces Weems to let her stay and continue investigating.
Wednesday follows a figure lurking at the mayor's funeral, who turns out to be her Uncle Fester. He reveals to her that the monster is a Hyde, and together they learn that such a creature is controlled by a master. Suspicion turns to Dr Kinbott and Xavier, especially after Thing is injured and the diary is stolen. When Kinbott is killed, Xavier is arrested. But after kissing Tyler, Wednesday has a vision of him as the Hyde.
Wednesday captures and tortures Tyler for a confession, but her friends alert Weems, and she is expelled. Tyler admits he is the Hyde. With Weems’ help, Wednesday tricks Thornhill, who is revealed to be Laurel Gates. Laurel kills Weems and uses Wednesday’s blood to resurrect Joseph Crackstone. With Goody’s help, Wednesday heals and returns to stop Crackstone. Enid transforms to defeat Tyler, Eugene takes down Laurel, and Crackstone is destroyed. Nevermore closes for the semester, Tyler is arrested, and Xavier is freed.
