A film based on Abraham Lincoln's life and speculated queer side is scheduled to be released in theatres on May 2 in select theatres Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and New York City from Pride Flix.

Based on Roger Q Mason’s original stage play and helmed by director Lovell Holder, Lavender Men weaves together elements of historical fiction and personal reflection. The film follows a non-binary stage manager—portrayed by Mason—as they reimagine the life of Abraham Lincoln through a queer perspective. Mason also stars in the film along with Pete Ploszek, Alex Esola, Ted Rooney and Holder.

Mason's play debuted in 2022 at Skylight Theater Company in LA, in association with Playwrights’ Arena. The stage version was directed by Holder.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Holder hoped that the film will be a support for the LGBTQIA community in the U.S. and empower them. He said, "This film was a genuine labor of love between close friends and trusted collaborators, shot over 10 days on a shoestring budget with adrenaline and passion for this story as everyone’s primary motivator."

Producers are Mia Chang and Mia Ellis who have bankrolled with Holder and Mason.

It was only last year that a documentary film on the 16th president - Lover of Men: The Untold History of Abraham Lincoln - was released. The feature, which investigated whether Lincoln might be queer, was met with intense trolling, especially from Elon Musk. Lincoln was married to Mary Todd Lincoln for more than 20 years. He was assassinated in 1865.
