Hollywood icon Jim Carrey has clarified comments he made in 2022 about retiring from acting, explaining that his earlier remarks were not definitive. Speaking at the London premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on December 10, Carrey reflected, "You can't be definite about these things. As soon as a good idea or a group of people you enjoy working with comes along, things tend to change."

Back in 2022, while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey had suggested he was stepping back from acting, stating in an interview with Access Hollywood: “I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink... I might continue. But I’m taking a break.” Revisiting his statement at the Sonic 3 event, he admitted, “That might have been hyperbole.”

Known for his iconic roles in films like Bruce Almighty and The Truman Show, Carrey hinted he is open to reprising his famous characters. Speaking to ComicBook, he shared enthusiasm for potential sequels to How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Mask.

Meanwhile, Carrey’s next film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, is set to release in the United States on December 20. The highly anticipated third instalment of the franchise sees Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles face Shadow the Hedgehog, a new adversary. They must form an unexpected alliance with Dr. Robotnik, played by Carrey, to overcome the threat.

As one of Hollywood’s most beloved figures, Carrey's latest comments leave the door open for future projects, sparking anticipation for what might come next.
