Sony unveils first look posters for The Woman King starring Viola Davis

Sony released the first look poster for their upcoming film The Woman King starring Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy award-winning actor Viola Davis. Based on true events, the film revolves around Agojie, a group of fierce all-female warriors who protected the African kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s
 


The story follows the emotional journey of a battle-hardened General Nanisca, played by Viola Davis, as she fights colonisers and invaders to protect her people. Gina Prince-Bythewood, known for directing The Old Guard, is brought on board as the director. Joining Viola Davis are the actors Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, John Boyega, Adrienne Warren, and Jayme Lawson.

The film is written by Dana Stevens with additional inputs from director Gina Prince-Bythewood while Maria Bello and Cathy Schulman act as producers. The first look poster gave us a look at Viola Davis’ look as General Nanisca, as she prepares to charge into battle. The makers of the film had earlier released a trailer for the film which gave us a deeper look into the kingdom of Dahomey. The trailer promises plenty of gritty action with women at its forefront. 

The film will release across theatres in India on 16th September 2022.
