SDCC 2022: The Walking Dead gets a new spinoff series

CE Features

Expanding The Walking Dead franchise, a spinoff series centred around Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira's Michonne Hawthorne has been set up.

The announcement was made during the ongoing San Diego's Comic Con panel.

The spinoff series will have six episodes and will be released in 2023. While Scott Gimple will be the showrunner, Lincoln and Gurira will be the executive producers.

According to Variety, the synopsis of the upcoming series reads, “This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changing world kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead... And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they've ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive -- or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?"

It is to be noted that the spinoff will be replacing  The Walking Dead films which were announced earlier.
