The Woman King gets an Indian release date

The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2022

Academy Award-winning actor, Viola Davis' The Woman King, which is releasing next month in the US will release a month later in India. The film, directed by The Old Guard director Gina Prince-Bythewood, will release in India on 5th October. 

The film is said to be inspired by true events and follows the Agojie, an all-female warrior unit who protected the African kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century, one of the most powerful states of Africa at the time. 

Apart from Davis, the film has an ensemble cast that includes Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and John Boyega. The Woman King will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2022.
