May 4 marks the birth anniversary of legendary director Dasari Narayana Rao. On this occasion, the Telugu Film Directors Association (TFDA) observes it as Directors’ Day every year. Dasari Narayana Rao introduced several new talents to the Telugu film industry, including actors, technicians, and directors.

This year too, TFDA celebrated the occasion in a grand manner, with several prominent personalities from the film industry in attendance. Acclaimed filmmaker R Balki was honoured with the prestigious Dasari National Film Award. Dasari Narayana Rao, fondly referred to as “Guruvugaru” by many in the industry, was remembered with great respect.

Senior actor Mohan Babu attended the event as the chief guest and praised TFDA for instituting the awards on Dasari’s birthday. “Dasari Narayana Rao garu is like a father figure to me. He gave me life in cinema—he introduced me to the industry, changed my name to Mohan Babu, and gave me opportunities to perform as a villain, comedian, character artiste, and hero. He taught me dialogue delivery and acting. Because of him, I am what I am today,” he said.

Expressing his emotions, Mohan Babu added, “While we celebrate his birthday on May 4, it is also a painful reminder of his absence. Just like parents stay with us forever, Dasari garu will always remain in my life.”

He also appreciated TFDA for honouring R Balki. “They have chosen a truly deserving person for the award. I appreciate TFDA for making an unbiased selection,” he said, while also recalling his association with Dasari and delivering a few iconic dialogues from his films.

Speaking about Dasari’s legacy, Mohan Babu said, “The younger generation may not fully know him, but Dasari defines what a director truly is. He always believed that directors create stars, and he created many in Telugu cinema.”

On the occasion, Mohan Babu announced a donation of ₹15 lakh to TFDA. “I would like to contribute ₹15 lakh to the Telugu Film Directors Association. I appreciate their good work. As long as cinema exists, Dasari’s name will live on,” he said.

Senior actress Jayasudha, who was also honoured, said the award held special significance for her. “I have received many awards, but this one is very special. Because of Dasari garu, I am where I am today. In my journey, he has left an unforgettable mark,” she said.

TFDA president VN Aditya, along with directors like N Shankar, Samudra, Thammareddy Bharadwaja, Sai Rajesh, and R Narayanamurthy, attended the event. Along with many directors and producer, senior actor Jayaprada is also present at this event.
