Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is making massive strides at the global box office while earning widespread acclaim for its storytelling and screenplay. For Indian audiences, the mythological epic holds added significance as it marked the first time the acclaimed filmmaker visited the country to promote one of his films. During one of his interactions with the media, Nolan credited SS Rajamouli's RRR with breaking into the US market and expressed confidence in Indian cinema's growing potential to find audiences across the world.

In an interview with The Daily Jagran, Christopher Nolan was probed on whether he felt Indian actors are continuing to be underrepresented in global cinema despite their range and experience. He replied, "If you look at the success of films like RRR, that's an important milestone. A Bollywood production breaking into the American market... The US market alone accounts for half of the total market. Breaking into it and other Western markets will open up all kinds of possibilities for filmmakers," Nolan said.

For the unversed, RRR (2022) starred Jr NTR and Ram Charan in leading roles and was a massive blockbuster hit in theatres. The film was met with critical and commercial reception across the world as well, and the song 'Naatu Naatu' won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. Rajamouli is currently working on Varanasi with Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles.

This is not the first time a noted filmmaker had praised RRR and its global reach. Earlier, Rajamouli recalled the time he met James Cameron and shared that the filmmaker had watched his film twice.

Meanwhile, The Odyssey is based on Greek king Odysseus' (Matt Damon) long and ardous 10-year-long journey after the Trojan war to reunite with his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland). The film has shattered records, grossing over $264 million worldwide in its opening weekend.
