News about a biography of veteran late singer MS Subbulakshmi, bankrolled by Allu Aravind's Geetha Arts, has been making the rounds for a while now. From Trisha to Nayanthara, a lot of names were considered to play her role in the film. Two names that were nearly finalised were Rukmini Vasanth and Sai Pallavi.

However, as per latest reports, after Sai Pallavi seems to have backed out due to her 2-part Ramayana schedule, Rashmika Mandanna is reportedly taking over to portray the Bharat Ratna awardee onscreen. Gowtam Tinnanuri, who is known for Jersey, will reportedly helm the film, with Rockline Venkatesh and Bunny Vas also set to produce.

While Gowtam has not worked with Rashmika yet, his last film, Kingdom, featured Vijay Deverakonda in the lead. Reportedly, the biopic of the legendary singer will be launched on September 16, on the occasion of her birth anniversary. Until then, confirmation on the casting is unconfirmed.

MS Subbulakshmi, who passed away 22 years ago at the age of 88, was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, and also the first Indian musician to receive the Ramon Magsaysay award in 1974. She was also the first Indian to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. The legendary singer had also acted in a few films early in her career, from 1938 to 1947. 

Meanwhile, Rashmika recently broke her hip bone while shooting for Mysaa and underwent a procedure. As she is on the road to recovery, she recently made a public appearance along with her husband, Vijay, at a wedding. Last seen in Cocktail 2, she has Ranabaali, scheduled for release on October 16. Her Mysaa is yet to get a release date.
