Actor Sreeleela, who is also a qualified doctor with an MBBS degree, recently made certain comments about menstruation that have not gone down well with netizens. The actor recently said that she has endured period pain for her work, saying it is no 'excuse' to avoid work. "All of my songs, I can say, most of them at least have been appreciated. I have shot while I have been on my period, so that is not an excuse anywhere," she said.
Sreeleela also highlighted the importance of pushing beyond physiological and psychological barriers for the sake of work. The actor's comments are now facing severe scrutiny because she is also a doctor. Netizens argue that menstruation has a different effect from one person to another and that it should not be generalised. For many, menstruation can make it very challenging to do basic tasks in day to day life. More than her generalisation, it is the actor's choice of word, 'excuse,' which has contributed to the backlash against her.
Beyond her full-length roles and supporting characters, Sreeleela is also known for her appearances in dance numbers, such as 'Kissik' in Pushpa 2: The Rule, opposite Allu Arjun and 'Kurchi Madathapetti' with Mahesh Babu in Guntur Kaaram. The actor is yet to respond to the backlash over her contentious comments.
On the work front, she recently made her Tamil debut with a role in Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara and co-starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, and Atharvaa. Her most recent role came in director Harish Shankar's film Ustaad Bhagat Singh, opposite Pawan Kalyan. Her upcoming films include a yet-to-be-titled film from director Anurag Basu and Amaran director Rajkumar Periasamy's next, co-starring Dhanush. The film with Anurag Basu is expected to mark the actor's debut in Hindi cinema.
