As it happens with most massive star vehicles, Pawan Kalyan-starrer They Call Him OG witnessed a huge drop in its day 2 collections at domestic box office, after taking a thunderous start on Thursday, September 25.
According to Sacnilk.com, OG garnered Rs 19.25 crore (nett) on Friday, witnessing a 70 per cent drop from its Thursday figures which stood at Rs 63.75 crore. A 50-60 percent drop is usual for most of these star vehicles in Telugu film industry, which experiences an unusual level of mania especially on its opening day. And with OG, the drop is all the more expected, considering how with its premiere shows alone, the film collected more than 20 crores in India.
At the same time, this also likely means that the word-of-mouth impact for the film is not as strong as expected.
While there is no clarity yet on the film’s business in overseas markets on Friday, the film had performed exceedingly well in its premiere shows and opening day shows, collecting 42.5 crores in overseas, according to Sacnilk. Now it remains to be seen whether OG can pick up again on Saturday and Sunday, and manage to come anywhere close to the 300 crore mark by the end of its extended weekend.
Written and directed by Sujeeth, OG marks Pawan Kalyan’s first clean hit in many years. The stylistic action-drama also features prominent names like Prakash Raj, Arjun Das, and Sriya Reddy in the lead cast. Priyanka Mohan plays the female lead, while Emraan Hashmi made his Telugu debut, playing mafia overlord Omi.
The film is particularly winning a lot of praise for its hero-elevation action set-pieces, stylish cinematography (by Ravi K Chandran and Manoj Paramahamsa) and a thumping soundtrack by Thaman S that does great justice to Pawan Kalyan’s heroism on screen.
