After a staggering response for its premiere shows on Wednesday, the Pawan Kalyan starrer They Call Him OG began its box office run on a thunderous note on Thursday, September 25. The film’s day 1 collections at domestic box office stand approximately at Rs 70 crore, as per a report by Sacnilk.com. The film had already garnered a record-breaking Rs 20 crores with its Wednesday shows alone. And with its Thursday release, OG gets to enjoy an extended weekend and shows no signs of slowing down in next 3 days. In the overseas market too, OG performed phenomenally well. In North American alone, the film grossed more than $3 million in its premiere, while the film’s collections in UK stand at nearly 1.75 million euros.
In the domestic market, the film registered more than 90 percent occupancies in multiple centres like Vijaywada, Visakhapatnam, and Guntur.
OG has joined the leagues of RRR, KGF 2, and Sujeeth's previous film Saaho, among others, which grossed more than Rs 100 crore worldwide on day 1 at the boxoffice. What makes OG's feat unique is that it's the only non pan-Indian film to do so, unlike others which were aggressively marketed as pan-Indian vehicles.
Directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Entertainment, They Call Him OG tells the story of a feared gangster who, after being in a hiatus for many years, returns to Mumbai to protect his family against a mafia overlord Omi (Emraan Hashmi). OG also stars Priyanka Mohan, Arjun Das and Sriya Reddy in the lead cast.
Besides its stylistic set pieces built around Pawan Kalyan’s heroism, the film is also garnering a lot of praise for its original score by Thaman S.
