Anupama Parameswaran is currently enjoying back-to-back releases in theatres across Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages. This year alone, the actor had six releases - Dragon, Paradha, Kishkindhapuri, JSK: Janaki V v/s State of Kerala, The Pet Detective and Bison Kaalamaadan. While some of them have become box office blockbusters, not all the films had witnessed success in theatres. Expressing her gratitude on working across multiple films and languages, Anupama noted that she is disappointed with the response her recent Telugu film Paradha received in theatres.
In a questioned posed to her during an interaction following the release of Mari Selvaraj's Bison Kaalamaadan, she said, "I am very disappointed with Paradha's response, really sad as well. That's the truth and I accept it."
"For each film we do, we hope that it turns out fine and everybody in audience likes it, even if it necessarily doesn't become a box office hit. That's what I've been trying, to try different characters in each film. My role in Kishkindhapuri is nothing like my part in Bison. When a film becomes a success, it motivates me to make better films and choose scripts wisely," she added.
Directed by Praveen Kandregula, Paradha, released in August, told the story of a spirited young woman from a deeply-patriarchal village who is compelled to undertake a journey to prove her innocence to a bunch of conservative villagers baying for her sacrifice as part of an old custom, and has a life-changing epiphany in the process. The film also starred Rag Mayur, Darshana Rajendran, and Sangitha Krish in the lead cast and Rajendra Prasad in an extended cameo.
Besides Telugu, the film was also released in Malayalam, considering Darshana’s prominence in the film. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 15 crore, Paradha struggled to take off at the box office despite positive reviews. The film’s worldwide box office collection was about 1.2 crore, according to a report from Sacnilk.
