Actor Vijay Deverakonda attended the success event held for the recently released The Girlfriend, starring Rashmika Mandanna, on Wednesday. On the occasion, Vijay shared his thoughts on relationships and the message of the film. “I watched The Girlfriend, and I was emotional throughout. I couldn’t stop my tears,” said Vijay Deverakonda. He added that he has been getting regular updates about the film’s response. “Both Rashmika and Rahul have been sending me updates about the audience reactions,” he said.

“It’s painful that women in our society still face such problems. Relationships should be about respect, support, and growing together. If you face issues, talk openly. This film gives people that awareness. And if your partner still doesn’t listen, take your decision — do what’s right for you,” said the Arjun Reddy actor.

Vijay also noted that The Girlfriend achieving box-office success despite its unconventional format is a major achievement for the team. “More than the numbers, it has sparked thought and awareness, inspiring women to speak up. Many commercial hits can’t create this kind of societal impact. The team should be proud. Rahul and the producers have achieved something remarkable,” he said.

The actor mentioned that he has never personally faced such situations but feels deeply moved hearing about them. Talking about the director Rahul Ravindran, Vijay said, “Rahul is the kind of director the world needs — everyone who knows him speaks of him with love, and that’s his blessing,” The actor also praised Rohini’s character, saying it left him speechless.

Further talking about the film, Vijay said, “Dheekshith Shetty was outstanding as Vikram, and Anu’s portrayal of Durga made me wish every woman had a friend like her. I’ve known Rashmika since Geetha Govindam – there are so many similarities between her and Bhooma. At the peak of her career, she chose to do a film like this out of conviction, and that makes me proud.”

The actor also praised Rashmika for her resilience, adding that he usually reacts when people criticize him, but Rashmika remains calm. “One day, the world will understand who she truly is. Keeping your partner happy is everyone’s responsibility,” said Vijay.

It is to be noted that Vijay Deverakonda had also lent his voice for the first teaser of The Girlfriend, that was released nearly a year ago.
