The Rashmika Mandanna starrer The Girlfriend, which released on November 7, has registered an impressive growth at the box office over the weekend. This is one of the rare Telugu films this year where the word-of-mouth impact strongly reflects in the collections.
After opening with a figure of Rs 1.3 crore (nett), The Girlfriend collected Rs 2.55 crore on Saturday, according to Sacnilk.com, registering 95 percent growth. The sunday collections went even higher, with the film garnering Rs 3.1 crore (nett) at domestix box office.
As of on Monday 12pm, the film’s nett collections in India stand at Rs 7.07 crore. In overseas market too, the Rashmika starrer has been performing decently, and has gross nearly Rs 2.5 crore so far. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 12 crore, the film has already emerged as a profite venture for the makers. The Girlfriend will be Rashmika’s third Telugu hit in a row within a single year, after Pushpa 2 and Kuberaa.
The film is likely to continue having a steady run at the box office for the coming few days, considering the positive reviews from both critics and audience overall. The only big competition for the film for coming 3 weeks is Dulquer-Rana starrer Kaantha, the Tamil period drama which will also have a wide release in Telugu markets. It remains to be seen how well Kaantha is received, and what impact will it make on The Girlfriend’s box office run.
Besides Rashmika Mandanna’s performance, the film has also garnered rave reviews for its themes, Dheekshith Shetty’s performance, and certain sequences which pack an emotional punch, capturing its essence.
