Director Nag Ashwin, fresh from the success of Kalki 2898 AD, is reported to be in talks with Rajinikanth for a new project. According to industry reports, producer C Ashwini Dutt recently facilitated a meeting between the director and the actor, during which Ashwin narrated a plot. Rajinikanth is said to have responded positively and asked the director to develop it into a full script.
If finalised, the film would be produced under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner, which shares a longstanding relationship with Rajinikanth. Ashwini Dutt and the actor have previously discussed collaborations that did not materialise.
Nag Ashwin is currently occupied with the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, though its production has been delayed due to lead actor Prabhas’s ongoing commitments, including The Raja Saab and Hanu Raghavapudi’s untitled film. In the meantime, Ashwin has also been linked to a female-centric film with Alia Bhatt, though that too is still in the discussion stage.
Rajinikanth, on the other hand, continues to balance new projects with the success of his latest release Coolie, which is nearing Rs 260 crore at the box office and is expected to approach the Rs 300 crore mark. The actor has also been meeting directors from the Telugu industry in recent months. While filmmakers such as Vassishta of Bimbisara fame and Vivek Athreya have pitched ideas, no announcements have followed.
As both sides continue discussions, the possibility of Nag Ashwin and Rajinikanth working together remains one of the most closely watched developments in Tamil and Telugu cinema.
