August 9 marks the 50th birthday for Mahesh Babu, and wishes have been pouring in for the superstar from the entire industry. Incidentally, this week also marks the 20th anniversary for Athadu, one of the most popular and iconic films of Mahesh Babu’s career. On the occasion, popular composer Thaman S shared a lesser-known anecdote about his association with Athadu and Mahesh Babu.

Not many people know that Thaman worked as a programmer on the 2005 Mahesh Babu starrer, which was directed by Trivikram. Recalling his working experience, Thaman noted, “My only Request Was to Mani Sharma gaaru was ‘Dear sir let me programme the whole film.” Adding that Mani Sharma, whom Thaman calls his guru and mentor, approved his request, the composer added, “He gave me the fullest strength gave me all the notes  to programme as a keyboard & rhythm player for the whole film.”

Thaman further described the experience as “great learning days,” adding, “It was a such an craziest experience all through.” Thaman also called Athadu his most favourite collaboration between Mahesh Babu and Trivikram.

It is to be noted that besides its superhit soundtrack, Athadu also gained a lot of acclaim for its background score. Thaman S went on to compose music for several Mahesh Babu films like Dookudu, Aagadu, Business Man, Sarkaru Vaari Paata and Guntur Kaaram

Incidentally, the makers of Athadu have also re-released the film across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on the occasion, and the film has already grossed over 2 crores in advances on Saturday. Also starring Trisha Krishnan and Prakash Raj in major roles, Athadu remains one of the biggest hits of Mahesh Babu, and has since acquired a cult status for its stylistic choices and technological innovations.
