It has been 51 years since the release of Rajinikanth's debut film Apoorva Raagangal, directed by K Balachander and co-starring Kamal Haasan and Srividya. On Saturday, marking Independence Day, the producer of the Superstar's upcoming film, Dharman, dropped a video in tribute to his 51-year-long journey in the film industry.

In the video, Rajinikanth can be seen cutting a cake in honour of his film journey on the Dharman set and sharing it with his director Ashwath Marimuthu. His co-stars Simran and Raashii Khanna also participated in the celebrations with the Superstar. Yogi Babu is also part of the cast.

"51 Years. One Name. One Superstar. Celebrating from the sets of Dharman," wrote Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International banner as the caption for the post. The film's makers also released an Independence Day poster featuring a partial image of Rajinikanth's character with an Indian flag in his pocket.

The upcoming film stars Rajinikanth as a "the deadly doctor". In the promotional materials, the makers have been describing the character as a 'ketta paiyan,' a reference to the Superstar's own dialogue from the 1978 film Mullum Malarum.

Produced by Kamal alongside R Mahendran, Dharman marks the 173rd film in Rajinikanth's career. On the technical front, the film has composer Anirudh, cinematographer Niketh Bommi, editor Pradeep E Ragav, production designer Karthik Rajkumar, and stunt choreographer Anbariv. The film recently entered the second schedule of production. The makers are yet to set a release date for it.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is awaiting the release of Jailer 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2023 blockbuster. Directed by Nelson, the Jailer sequel is set for an October 15 release in theatres. He is also set to star in a film with actor Kamal Haasan that will be directed by Nelson.
