In an interview promoting his latest film, Bakasuran, Tamil filmmaker Mohan G stated that a Telugu remake of the film is on the cards. In the interview, Mohan said, "I have been approached by producer Bellamkonda Suresh to direct the Telugu version. I told him that I am not familiar with the language but he assured me that he will make the necessary arrangements for me. If the Tamil works at the box office, the remake will definitely happen."

Bakasuran, starring director-actor Selvaraghavan and Natty in the lead roles, tells the story of a father avenging the unjust inflicted on his daughter. The film deals with a racket exploiting young women through smart phones. The film, which was released last week in Tamil Nadu, was met with mixed reviews. Like Mohan G's previous films, Draupadi (2020) and Rudra Thandavam (2021), which created a lot of discussion for their take on caste, Bakasuran too has instigated polarising responses for its messaging about safety of the youth.

Interestingly, it was reported in April 2021 that Bellamkonda Suresh had secured the remake rights to Dhanush's Karnan, with his son and actor Bellamkonda Sreenivas set to step into Dhanush's role. There has been no update about the progress of the film post that. Suresh has produced hit films such as Chennakesava Reddy (2002), Lakshmi Narasimha (2004), Naa Autograph (2004) and Kandireega (2011), to name a few.
