A star kid making his directorial debut inevitably comes with a long list of names attached to his journey even before his first film reaches theatres. For Jason Sanjay, that attention has followed him throughout the promotions of Sigma, with much of the conversation inevitably circling back to his father Vijay and the question of how much the actor-turned-politician would be involved in the film.
Jason, however, has repeatedly attempted to keep the focus on the film itself. He had earlier said that Vijay would not be promoting Sigma, explaining that he wanted the campaign to remain centred on the film and its team. At the film's Salem event, he also spoke about the importance of creating an identity of his own, while acknowledging the influence of his family.
At the Sigma trailer and audio launch in Chennai, Jason Sanjay turned his attention to that support system, thanking his mother Sangeetha, father Vijay and sister Divya Saasha. “I would like to thank my mother. I would like to thank my father, who is the Chief Minister today. And I would like to thank my dear sister Divya,” he said during his speech.
He also singled out his uncle Sanjeev, recalling how he approached him after college with the idea of becoming a director. Jason said Sanjeev immediately agreed to support his decision and described him as “someone I can trust the most in this world.” The filmmaker's comments placed his debut within a wider family support network rather than limiting the acknowledgement to his parents.
The speech then moved beyond his family to the filmmakers and actors who had supported Sigma. Jason thanked SS Rajamouli for watching the trailer, discussing the film with him and helping with its Telugu promotions. He also acknowledged Dulquer Salmaan for launching the film's first single and thanked Soori, whose career progression he said has been an inspiration to him.
Jason also had words of appreciation for his lead actor Sundeep Kishan, calling him a special, brother-like figure and praising his desire to offer audiences different films. He credited Faria Abdullah for bringing energy to the sets and thanked the rest of the cast for their contributions.
The debutant filmmaker also acknowledged the technicians who helped shape Sigma, including editor Praveen KL, cinematographer Krishnan Vasant, art director Benjamin M and stunt choreographers Venkat and Silva. He spoke about the discussions that went into developing the film's writing, music, action and visual portions.
The launch also comes just weeks before Sigma reaches theatres. Backed by Lyca Productions, the heist comedy stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah alongside Sampath Raj, Raju Sundaram, Shiv Panditt, Sheela Rajkumar and others. Thaman S has composed the music, with Krishnan Vasant handling cinematography and Praveen KL editing the film. Sigma is scheduled to release in Tamil and Telugu on October 2.
